Here follows a brief technical description of the Reutter Atmos clock, a historic milestone in the history of horology (produced prior to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s acquisition of the patent). The manufacturer and inventor of this clock is Jean-Léon Reutter (France). The year of manufacture is circa 1930. This clock has the movement number: 1090 (low number). A new type of clock in the Art Deco style.
Some technical details regarding the winding mechanism.
Driven by a mercury-in-glass motor system. A drum housing a U-shaped tube filled with mercury and a volatile gas reacts to variations in ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. Temperature fluctuations cause the gas to expand or contract, displacing the mercury and creating an oscillation that continuously winds the mainspring barrel.
About the dial and case construction:
A 9-cm white enamel dial featuring Roman numerals. Typically inscribed with ‘ATMOS pendule perpétuelle’ and ‘Brevets J.L. Reutter. Atmos cock 'made in France'.
Paired with blued steel Breguet hands.
Nickel-plated brass frame with geometric, architectural Art Deco styling. Features four clear glass panels providing full internal transparency to showcase the movement. Front and rear doors allow access.
During transport, use the mechanical locking lever fitted to the plinth.
